Her recordings of Italian and French romantic opera, including a notable Lucia di Lammermoor, are distinguished by a radiant purity and technical finesse. DBE 1918. She studied in Paris under Marchesi 1886, and made her opera debut 1887. Peach melba (half a peach plus vanilla ice cream and melba sauce, made from sweetened, fresh raspberries) and melba toast (crisp, thin toast) are named after her.
